When simple activities become a task for you, it is time to think seriously about weight loss programmes. Obesity is becoming a leading problem for people all over the world. Many medical problems like infertility, cancer, PCOD, heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and many more have a direct association with obesity. Obesity is a disorder that involves excessive body fat leading to various other health problems in the human body. The global method of calculating obesity is through the Body Mass Index (BMI). It is measured by dividing a person’s weight by the square of their height. When simple activities become a task for you, it is time to think seriously about weight loss programmes. Obesity is becoming a leading problem for people all over the world.
Being overweight causes many medical problems like:
- Infertility :- Obesity causes infertility in women leading to hormonal imbalances and problems with ovulation. Also, infertile women are more affected of obesity and high weight gain. Being obese during pregnancy can have a major impact on your health and your baby’s health.
- PCOD:- Polycystic ovary syndrome is also a condition that has a strong relationship with obesity. It is proposed that women with PCOS are affected by both PCOS-specific inherent insulin resistance with additional obesity and lifestyle-related extrinsic insulin resistance. Obesity, specifically abdominal obesity further increases insulin resistance. Obesity or insulin resistance exacerbates the reproductive, metabolic and psychological features of PCOS.
- Heart diseases:– It is suspected that excess fat tissue, especially around the waist, has a direct effect on heart structure and function, even in the absence of other heart disease risks. The understanding is excess fat tissue can directly damage the heart muscle even before symptoms are evident.
- Diabetes :- Obesity is also thought to trigger changes to the body’s metabolism.
These changes cause fat tissue (adipose tissue) to release fat molecules into the blood, which can affect insulin responsive cells and lead to reduced insulin sensitivity, which leads to diabetes. - High blood pressure :- Hypertension in association with the obesity is caused due to high blood flow, vasodilatation and cardiac output. Also, increase sodium levels in renal and kidney leads to hypertension. Therefore, weight loss is the only condition to avoid hypertension.
- Depression :- Obesity has also been associated with depression in adolescents. Depression often is linked with weight gain, which can sabotage a person’s self-esteem. The mental traumas of change in psychological and social behavior can be a result of being obese.
